A tiny sketchbook 01

Lene is back in Denmark, meaning that our artistic collaborations will get more frequent (hopefully) from now on. the scans below are from a small sketchbook we did during christmas and new years. it's 2 pieces of bond paper folded and stapled together. it limited the materials we could use, but the main purpose was to get warmed up before starting a new moleskin. and it surely did help. there a no progress scans this time, cause we never really thought about putting it on the blog, till we decided the paper couldn't take any more work. so here it is.

The end of sketchbook 1 and time for a new beginning

The first sketchbook is completed. It has been a fun and long journey, but all good things come to an end. Lene and I have both had a real blast doing this book and now we need your help. We have talked about auctioning the book away for charity. What we would like to know is: is this a good idea, where is the best place to do so, and would any of you be interested in bidding on this?

New scans added for a bunch of pages. sloppy scans I must admit, but they seem to add some "this actually a real book" feel. the 8861miles project is quickly nearing an end. I'm kinda expecting Lene to take this across the finish line and yell eureka. hope to see you all when the book is auctioned away for charity.

The book is ready for Australia. I would like to apologise to Lene and to the probably only person following this blog by now. Sorry. I should have done a lot more work and a hell of a lot sooner. I am sorry, it will not happen again.
On a lighter note, Lene and I have talked about the possibility of selling the book through ebay once we are done filling the pages. We would like to hear if that would be something any one you would be interested in. Owning the original and first 8861miles sketchbook. with smells, stains, and loads of original art. Another brushpen drawing, this time without a pencil sketch to follow. some parts work, some don't. The lines turn rather grayish on the moleskinpaper... it actually looks better on cheap paper. expensive crap. (Peter)

I really liked this spread, so I just added a few brush lines to the bird and the dino, to make them jump out a bit. (Peter)

I love the feeling of just jumping into the page and hoping for the best. Sometimes in works out fine,like in this one (in my opinion). And then other times, like page 35-36, you're sinking from the second your ill-chosen tool touches the slick surface of the paper. (Peter)

So far I'm the only one writing shipping notes. But I'm hoping this will change. Well... the book is well under way, and I'm starting to feel really good about this. Getting the book in the mail almost feels like christmas and sending it of feels like... I would have liked to have had more time, so I could have done a few more spreads, but I also want to keep the ball rolling. So off it goes. When it arrives at Lene's house in a week or so, it will have travelled 26583 miles so far. (Peter)

It's not like I hate plants, I just don't have the same ecstatic fascination with them as Lene has. Some people have green fingers, Lene is green from top to toe. Having said that, I think I reacted to this spread in a very gentle manner. (Peter)

I know Peter isn't to keen on plants, so I am excited to see what will happen to these pages. (Lene)

This is it. Our first collaboration book is about to get stuffed into a sturdy envelope and travel around the world to the red rock, known as Australia. Where my dear friend and partner in artistic crime, Lene, hopefully awaits the arrival of this little black book, soon to be filled with all kinds of nonse and beauty. This blog: 8861 miles, will show the different stages the book and its pages will undergo, before we declare it complete and auction the book of for sale. The stamps I have pasted on the left page, were from the package Lene sent me the book in. (Peter)

The shellack has a nice effect on this side though. (well I think so) (Lene)

I guess all beginnings are really awkward. Notice how I even skipped the page on the left. The drawing... well nothing much to say here, it was all about getting my feet wet and discovering what materials didn't work well on these pages. (Peter)
